Diabetes Education Gives Hope
The goal of any health care worker is to provide help and assistance to the patients they come into contact with. This is only the beginning of what the staff at the Joslin Diabetes Center does every day.
Any life changing diagnosis, such as diabetes can be hard to come to terms with. But at Joslin, they make it a little easier. Every patient is assessed and their care is individualized. But more importantly, care includes a component of inspiration, hope, and compassion.
A new patient at our office said, “I felt hopeless going to endocrinologists in different offices. Everyone had unrealistic blood sugar goals for me. The treatment felt impersonal. Joslin Center gave me hope. I feel that I can finally live with diabetes.”
Another patient relays a similar story. She had been going to an endocrinologist for years, but did not feel as if the staff in the office cared about her. She now comes to the Joslin Diabetes Center and is scheduled to begin using an insulin pump to help manage her diabetes. She feels as if she has a new family and a new way to deal with her diabetes. The experience has inspired her to not only manage her diabetes, but also focus to improve her overall health. “I have the attention I need for the management of my diabetes, as well as the emotional support.”
The team at Joslin has the clinical expertise, as well as a compassionate and caring environment. This combination provides both help and hope for all of our patients.
