Best Heart Treatment? Early Detection!

Preventative Heart Screenings

Grandview Medical Center (GVMC) knows that the earlier you detect a possible heart problem, the easier it is to treat it effectively. Because we care about your heart as much as you do, GVMC has designed a program of screenings and educational classes to help you improve and maintain the health of your heart. These cardiovascular screening tests are inexpensive and open to anyone in our community.

If you are at increased risk for heart disease or simply concerned, screening tests can help assess your state of health and target problems BEFORE they become serious. Healthy lifestyle changes can often prevent future problems.

Risk Factors Include:

  • Family history of heart disease
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking
  • Obesity
  • Lack of regular physical activity

Remember, almost half of all coronary events occur in people without traditional risk factors!

Knowing and taking control of your heart health is possible through the many screening tests offered by Grandview Medical Center's heart screening team:

  • Heart Attack Risk Screening - This screening provides a snapshot of current blood cholesterol levels and personal cardiovascular risk factors. Includes total cholesterol, HDL & LDL, triglyceride and blood glucose levels. Registration is required, and space is limited. Schedule your screening today, call (937) 384-4857.

  • Heart Print Screening - this test provides information about the electrical activity of the heart. This test takes only minutes to perform and requires no special preparation. The Heart Print is read by an experienced KMC cardiologist and kept on file for future reference. Registration is required, and space is limited. Schedule your screening today, call (937) 395-8492.

  • Stroke Screening - This includes a series of three tests to detect blockages in carotid arteries (neck); look for silent enlargement of the aorta (aneurysm); and check for poor circulation in lower extremities. Registration is required, and space is limited. Schedule your screening today, call (937) 384-4857.

  • Cardiac Calcium Scoring - Uses CT scans to detect calcium deposits in coronary arteries BEFORE symptoms develop. Registration is required, and space is limited. Schedule your screening today, call (937) 395-8492.

  • Healthy Hearts for Women - These screenings are designed to increase awareness of heart disease in women and assess cardiovascular risk status. We measure lipid levels, glucose, B/P, body mass index, and a 12-lead EKG. We include an individual risk consultation. Call (937) 395-8492 to register.

Chest Pain Centers

Grandview is the area's first hospital to receive Chest Pain Center accreditation and that means better emergency care when your loved one needs it.

Grandview Medical Center is in rare company once again, distinguishing itself with yet another marker of exceptional patient care. Only a few hundred hospitals nationwide have earned this seal of approval from the Society if Chest Pain Centers.

Why Go To An Accredited Chest Pain Center?
A study published by American Heart Association says mortality rates for heart attacks are 37% lower for those who go to a Chest Pain Center.

The Chest Pain Center's protocol driven and systematic approach to patient management allows physicians to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack, when treatments are most effective, and to better monitor patients to ensure that a patient is neither sent home too early nor needlessly admitted.

Not all heart attacks are sudden and intense. In many cases, the heart attack starts slowly with mild chest pain or discomfort. Early symptoms occur in 50% of all heart attack patients. It is not only the heart attack that can kill, but also the time wasted when trying to decide whether to go to the hospital to be checked. So don't delay! Don't take chances with chest pain.

If you have chest pain or other heart attack symptoms, call 9-1-1 and seek medical attention immediately at the Kettering Health Network accredited chest pain center nearest you!
