The heart is a muscle and like all muscles requires energy and oxygen to work. It is supplied with blood by a system of arteries originating from the aorta. They are called the coronary arteries. There are four valves in your heart which act like one-way doors. They let blood in and out of the heart's chambers each time it beats.

The surgeons at Kettering Medical Center have performed over 23,000 heart surgery procedures and are focused on providing you with excellence in care throughout your stay and for life.
